Letter To The Editor – Kirk Chandler

Democrat or Republican?

What am I? The United States was organized as a Democratic Republic. The question then is which am I?

We hear our federal leaders talk about our Democracy. A republic is based on constitutional law. The Law is the Constitution as it was written then. In the Constitution there is an avenue to change it.

Democracy comes into the republic when the citizens have the right to vote for their elected representatives. The democratic process is supposed to end there. When we elect a person to represent us, they are sworn into office. They take an oath to uphold and defend the constitution of the United States and the Constitution of the State of Idaho against all enemies foreign and DOMESTIC. It is sad that we elect people to office and then those officials choose to ignore the oath they took and vote and apply democracy to our government and completely go against the constitution in a lot of decisions. The candidates that campaign on the platform that they listen to and vote as the majority wants have missed the purpose of our democratic republic.

The candidates that say they will use the constitution to look at whether a bill or issue is good are the people we want to elect. Majority rules is not the republic process and it takes away from what our founding fathers intended. Look at the way the candidates vote, look at who are backing them, If a liberal, or democrat has republican signs in their yard it is a good indication that person running for office will not vote in favor of our Republic. Please research all the candidates and vote for the ones that will uphold the laws our country is founded on. By Kirk Chandler
