Santa: He May Be Deflated, but he’s not defeated

By Marsha Woods
Santa’s reputation for stamina is a long standing tradition; one in which no one wants to demean or dishonor. Unfortunately, some people forget the significance of Santa’s symbolism when it comes to the magic of Christmas!
Recently, a huge inflatable Santa that has stood as a representation of hope and joy in our community was desecrated.  It is sad that someone is so hopeless within their own lives that they have to take out their frustration on an entire community!
Does it stop us??  No way! The idealism of someone who believed in the concept of the character of community started it all!
Santa’s presence, tall and regal, began with an anonymous donor to the City of Weiser.  Suffice it to say, that City employees, used that generosity in a way that has been a symbol of inspiration and hopefulness by purchasing and adopting the inflatable, 24 foot Santa and placing him in the middle of “Times Square.” This majestic symbol has stood sentry in the center of town for a period of 3 Yuletide seasons.  Until recently, that is.
Without a doubt, Santa has been missed; so much so, in fact, a very special Elf is giving her time to make sure that he comes home for the holidays. Weiser’s most enthusiastic champion, Julie Chandler, with a bit of help from Nate Marvin is in the process of repairing the gentle giant.  Santa will be back where he belongs very soon!
