According to a report by Jeff Anderson of the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, during a traffic stop with another vehicle on October 10th, 2020, a pickup headed northbound on Highway 95 stopped to report that he had driven by a vehicle that had just rolled over on the side of the road. Sergeant Anderson headed to the accident and found a grey vehicle upside down on the west side of the highway along with several vehicles that had stopped to help. Anderson reported that he could see a male individual walking toward him, bleeding from his nose and blood on his hands.
Sergeant Singleton from the Weiser Police Department was called out to assist with the accident and administered first aid to the individual while they waited for an ambulance to arrive. Anderson asked the individual what had happened, and he stated that he was traveling to go deer hunting. He had fallen asleep at the wheel and had woken up in time to see that he was driving off the right side of the road. He stated that he tried to avoid a delineator but hit it and lost control of the vehicle. The truck crashed into the embankment on the opposite side of the road. The individual stated that he was not wearing a seatbelt and was the only person in the vehicle.
Weiser Rural Fire was called to the scene for traffic control. Weiser Paramedics arrived to evaluate the driver. The young man refused transport to the hospital but did call his parents to pick him up and have him assessed at Weiser Memorial Hospital. Information on injuries is unknown.
