Zoey Emery is a self-taught illustrator and animator who had the opportunity to job shadow our very own Alex Chavarria as part of a school project. Alex and Zoey connected to discuss what Living in the News .Com does and Zoey’s passion for animation. “I enjoy making art and animations and then uploading them to the media,” Zoey commented.
As part of a commission project, Alex asked Zoey to create an art concept for “Nick”, the jolly Santa Clause. “I wanted the character to still resemble Santa Clause with the red and white, so I had given him a red Hawaiian shirt, gave him some sunglasses and kept his Santa hat.” After deciding on a physical concept, Zoey worked on the storyboard frames for the animation. “Storyboard frames are when one draws only specific movements the character makes before actually beginning the animation process! These are also known as keyframes. Then, I insert sketches of the frames that go in between, along with drawing cleaner lines over the rough drawings of the frames and coloring,” she shared.
